Program Note:
Echoes of the Aether is a work inspired by the stars, where luminescence rings through the universe and gives us a glimpse as to what it once looked like. The stars as we view them today are millions of light years away, meaning the stars we see are merely projecting how they existed millions of years ago. I was drawn to write about my wonders of what could have been, what could be now, and what could be later. From glorious to tragic, or from life to extinction, an infinity of possibilities exists. This idea circled in my mind as I thought of every potential, so much so that I couldn’t possibly narrow down a musical idea to any singular one. I knew then that Echoes of the Aether would instead focus on the mind-blowing concept of limitless possibility in the universe. I’ve characterized outer space in this work as triumphant and ethereal, really wanting to pay homage to my early life’s film score influences, while still striving to create something of my own.
