
BIOGRAPHY
Tanner Walterman is a senior studying Composition at the University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas. At 22 years old, Tanner has already demonstrated a deep and abiding passion for music, which he views as a powerful medium for expressing himself and offering audiences a unique glimpse into the atmospheres and soundscapes he creates through his compositions. Tanner's musical journey began playing piano under the expert tutelage of Margaret Perry, who inspired him to compose music. Tanner further explored music by playing Clarinet in middle school band, eventually leading him to study composition under Keith Allegretti. Since then, he has continued to hone his skills under the guidance of some of the most respected names in the industry, including Omar Thomas, Donald Grantham, Russel Podgorsek, and Yevgeniy Sharlat. A salient feature that distinguishes Tanner's musical compositions is their connection with narrative. Drawing inspiration from the art of filmmaking and its accompanying scores, Tanner deftly interweaves these twin pursuits to craft musical works that offer vivid tales and nuanced character explorations for listeners to unravel as they embark on an aural odyssey. Tanner has achieved a number of significant milestones, including the premieres of three orchestral works with the Austin Symphony as well as three premieres with the band program at Vista Ridge High School. Through all of his accomplishments, Tanner remains deeply grateful for the unwavering support of his teachers, family, and friends, without whom he recognizes that his achievements would not have been possible.
